The TecDAX remained firmly in negative territory around midday on Friday, as technology stocks continued to absorb the impact of a sharp global sector sell-off. At 12:08 Berlin time, the index was down 1.15% at 3,993.17 points in Xetra trading, according to finanzen.ch.
Weak start extends into midday
The index opened at 4,023.16 points, down 0.406% from Thursday's close of 4,039.56 points. It reached an intraday high of 4,024.92 points and a low of 3,989.30 points by the time of the midday report. The decline therefore remained broad enough to keep the TecDAX more than 1% below the previous session's close, although the index was still trading above its 2026 starting level.
Global technology sell-off weighs
The immediate market backdrop was a renewed retreat in technology shares internationally. The Nasdaq Composite had fallen 5.52% on Thursday, while Asian technology markets also weakened before European trading. The Business Times, citing Reuters, reported that investors were reassessing the outlook for the technology sector after the US midterm elections. Concerns that tighter scrutiny of artificial-intelligence infrastructure could slow data-center investment added to the pressure.
The European technology sector had already fallen sharply on Thursday, with semiconductor-linked shares among the weakest performers. That backdrop was particularly relevant for the TecDAX, whose constituents include major technology and semiconductor companies. The market move should nevertheless be viewed as a sector-wide risk reduction rather than evidence that every index member was falling: at midday, AIXTRON and SMA Solar were among the stronger constituents, while HENSOLDT, ATOSS Software and Ottobock were among the weakest, according to the same finanzen.ch report.
Investors await the rest of session
For investors, the key question was whether the TecDAX could stabilize after the opening sell-off or remain exposed to further moves in global technology shares. The index was still in an open Xetra session, so the midday level did not represent a closing value. The latest index coverage is available on the TecDAX topic page.
