Shenzhen Component closed at 12,111 points on October 14, losing 243 points or 2.0 percent. The decline followed heavier selling in AI-related supply-chain shares as investors assessed mixed Chinese inflation data, Xinhua reported.
Zhongji Innolight, a maker of optical transceivers for AI data centers, fell 5.7 percent. The stock was among the shares hit as sentiment toward AI supply chains deteriorated, RTHK said.
Why did Shenzhen Component fall?
China's consumer price index rose 0.9 percent year over year in September, compared with 0.8 percent in August. The data pointed to a gradual recovery in consumer prices, while producer-price pressures remained part of the market debate, Sina Finance reported.
AI hardware selling intensified during the afternoon. The 5G Communication Index fell 3.8 percent, while the technology-focused STAR 50 Index dropped 3.3 percent. The Economic Times linked the broader weakness to a deepening selloff in AI-related supply-chain shares.

The index opened at 12,309 points, down 0.4 percent, before ending at 12,111 points. Turnover for the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets totaled 1.41 trillion yuan, down from 1.68 trillion yuan on the previous session, Xinhua said.
Oil and coal shares outperformed, while communication equipment, photovoltaic equipment and electrical-equipment shares weakened. More than 4,400 stocks declined, according to Sina Finance.
