The Shenzhen Component closed Thursday's session 1.19 percent higher at 11,471.09 points. The gain followed a weaker opening at 11,216.81 points and extended the rebound from Wednesday, when the index rose 4.22 percent to 11,335.69 points. The session was already closed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange by the configured evening reporting window in Europe.
Late buying reversed early weakness
Trading data from Xinhua show that shares initially came under pressure before buying interest improved during the afternoon. The report said photovoltaic, precious-metals and computing-power-leasing sectors led the gains, while coal, banking and brokerage stocks recorded notable losses.
The market's broad benchmark, the Shanghai Composite, added 0.10 percent to 3,689.91 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks growth companies listed in Shenzhen, gained 0.87 percent to 2,566.80 points. These related indicators provide context for the stronger performance of the Shenzhen Component, but they are separate indexes and are not included in its calculation here.
Policy expectations remain a market factor
Aju Press attributed the second consecutive advance in Chinese equities partly to investor expectations surrounding government measures to support the capital market. Its report also described stronger demand for solar and lithium-battery shares, while noting that buyback plans by listed companies contributed to the favorable market atmosphere. These factors help explain the day's sector leadership, but they do not establish that any single measure caused the index move.
Turnover rises with the rebound
Xinhua reported turnover of stocks covered by the Shanghai Composite and Shenzhen Component at about 2.12 trillion yuan, compared with roughly 2.04 trillion yuan on the previous trading day. The increase in activity accompanied a further recovery from the recent sell-off, although the index remained below levels reached earlier in October. Investors therefore continued to weigh renewed policy support against the durability of earnings and economic momentum.
The Shenzhen Component comprises large and liquid A-share companies listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Further reports and the index's recent session history are available on the Shenzhen Component topic page.
