The Shanghai Composite closed at 3,649.18 points on Friday, November 6, 2026, down 40.73 points, or 1.10 percent, from Thursday's close. The decline came as technology shares faced renewed selling across Asian markets, although the index retained a weekly gain.
Technology selloff drives retreat
Agence France-Presse reported that investors were reacting to a sharp Wall Street technology selloff and concerns that political pressure could create regulatory headwinds for artificial-intelligence companies and data-center projects. The Nasdaq had fallen sharply in the previous session, adding to pressure on technology-related shares in the region.
Reuters said the Shanghai market reduced its early losses as bargain hunting emerged and investors considered Chinese government support measures. The technology-heavy STAR 50 and artificial-intelligence indexes nevertheless came under significant pressure during the session.
Weekly advance remains intact
According to Morningstar, the index rose 50.16 points, or 1.39 percent, over the week. Friday's decline ended a two-session winning streak but also brought a six-week run of weekly losses to an end.
For investors, the session showed the tension between external technology-sector shocks and domestic support expectations. The weekly recovery remained positive, but the sharp one-day reversal underlined the market's sensitivity to global risk appetite and high-growth technology valuations.
