The Shanghai Composite closed at 3,767 points on October 14, losing 34 points or 0.9 percent. Mixed inflation data and continued pressure on artificial-intelligence supply-chain shares weighed on the benchmark, Xinhua reported.
Huaneng rose 4.4 percent, the strongest move among the listed gainers tracked by Trading Economics. Energy and coal shares advanced as oil prices climbed, while artificial-intelligence-linked stocks remained under pressure.
Why is the Shanghai Composite lower?
China's producer price index (PPI) rose 5.0 percent year over year in September, above the 4.5 percent forecast and up from 3.8 percent in August. Consumer price inflation reached 0.9 percent, below the 1.0 percent forecast but above August's 0.8 percent, CNBC reported.
The combination pointed to stronger factory costs but softer consumer demand. Reuters coverage carried by Economic Times also cited a selloff in artificial-intelligence supply-chain shares and higher energy stocks.
