- The Shanghai Composite fell 0.82% to 3,608.10 points on November 3, 2026.
- Technology-related sectors, including computing hardware, semiconductor chips and robotics, were among the notable decliners.
- Market-support measures announced by Chinese authorities failed to sustain the previous session's rebound.
- Broader investor caution reflected concerns about AI valuations, property-sector risks and the outlook for corporate earnings.
The Shanghai Composite ended Tuesday's session 0.82% lower at 3,608.10 points. The close reversed part of Monday's recovery and came as selling pressure remained concentrated in technology-related areas of the Chinese market.
Xinhua reported that turnover across the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets was about 1.7 trillion yuan, down from roughly 1.8 trillion yuan on the previous trading day. Insurance, pork and battery shares were among the sectors that advanced, while computing-power hardware, semiconductor chips, robotics, pharmaceuticals and medical care posted notable losses.
Support Measures Fail To Lift Sentiment
The decline followed a package of measures announced by Chinese regulators on Monday to support the stock market. According to The Economic Times, citing Reuters, the steps included swap operations and an upgrade to a lending facility intended to encourage listed companies to buy back shares. The report said the measures fell short of market expectations, while investors in battered technology stocks used the earlier rebound to reduce positions.
The policy response came after the CSI 300 lost 8.5% in October, its weakest monthly performance in more than a decade, according to the same report. Concerns over the financial position of state-owned developer Zhuhai Huafa Group and reports that it was seeking extensions on some bank loans added to existing worries about risks in China's property sector.
Global Technology Weakness Adds Pressure
External sentiment was also fragile. Agence France-Presse reported that Asian markets were affected by another AI-related technology selloff on Wall Street. Investors have increasingly questioned whether the large sums being committed to data centers and chips will generate sufficient returns, weighing on sentiment toward high-growth technology shares.
For the Shanghai Composite, Tuesday's close underlines the market's continuing sensitivity to technology valuations and the credibility of policy support. The index's decline does not by itself establish a direct causal link to any single measure or overseas market move, but the session showed that liquidity-support announcements were not enough to reverse broader caution.
