Small caps trail larger benchmarks
The Russell 2000's daily gain contrasted with stronger weekly performance in the large-cap indexes. The divergence came as volatility eased: the VIX closed at 14.84, down 0.6 points on the day, while the 10-year Treasury yield rose 0.03 percentage points to 5.26 percent, according to WOWK-TV.
Gold rose 1.4 percent to USD 4,216 an ounce, while WTI crude gained 2.4 percent for the week to USD 91.56 a barrel. The University of Michigan's preliminary consumer-sentiment index fell to 46.3 in October, below the 47.6 median estimate in a Bloomberg survey, The Detroit News reported.
