The RTS Index was under pressure in afternoon trading on Monday, November 2. At 14:30 Moscow time, the dollar-denominated Russian equity index stood at 969.49 points, down 13.24 points, or 1.35%, from the previous session's close. The reading was recorded during the ongoing Moscow Exchange session and was not a closing level.

Finmarket, citing Moscow Exchange data, reported that the RTS Index had traded as high as 988.26 points and as low as 966.13 points during the session. Trading in Moscow Exchange equities reached 73.93 billion rubles by 14:30 Moscow time, about 50% above the average level for the previous month. Some 64% of shares in the Main Market sector were lower, compared with 31% that were higher.

Correction follows October rally

The previous main-session close was 982.73 points on October 30. TASS reported that the RTS Index had gained 0.98% that day, with Russian shares supported by oil prices and geopolitical optimism. Monday's decline therefore represented a pullback from that level rather than a closing result.

A market report published by Finversia, citing Finam, described the move as a correction after the preceding weeks' gains. It also pointed to falling oil prices and pressure from a global technology-sector sell-off. At the same time, expectations of further diplomatic talks involving Russia, the United States and Ukraine remained part of the market backdrop.

Index remains in active session

The Moscow Exchange says the RTS Index is calculated continuously on weekday trading days from 07:00 to 23:50 Moscow time, with publication once per second. The 14:30 Moscow time reading corresponds to 12:30 Berlin time, ahead of the configured Europe/Berlin reporting slot. Investors should therefore treat 969.49 points as an intraday reference; the final session outcome could still differ.
