- The OMXS30 stood at 3,257.18, down 1.33% from Thursday's close.
- Global concern over AI valuations and possible policy changes in the United States weighed on European equities.
- The index recovered from a sharper early decline, but remained below the previous session's close.
The OMXS30 was trading lower on Friday, November 6, as a global sell-off in technology shares continued to weigh on European markets. Nasdaq's latest index snapshot showed the Stockholm blue-chip index at 3,257.18 points, down 43.91 points, or 1.33%, from Thursday's close of 3,301.09.
Global technology concerns weigh
The move followed a sharp decline in US technology stocks on Thursday and heavy losses in Asian markets overnight. Reuters reported that European shares fell broadly as investors reassessed AI-related valuations and the outlook for spending on data centers. The report also linked the renewed uncertainty to concerns about possible changes in US policy after the Democrats took control of Congress.
Swedish equities initially fell more sharply before recovering part of the decline. EFN reported that the OMXS30 was down 1.8% shortly after the open and had narrowed the loss to 0.9% by 10:15 Berlin time. The report cited Swedbank strategists, who described the market reaction as difficult to assess in the short term and said the move appeared more connected to positioning and changing risk appetite than to a sudden deterioration in fundamentals.
Index remains below Thursday close
Nasdaq listed a session high of 3,279.02 and a low of 3,240.05 for the OMXS30 on November 6. The index's decline was therefore broad enough to keep it below the previous close despite the recovery from the morning sell-off. The session's direction remained tied primarily to global risk sentiment and developments in large technology stocks rather than to a single Swedish index constituent.
The OMXS30 tracks the 30 largest and most actively traded stocks on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. Its performance provides a useful view of Swedish large-cap sentiment, but the day's decline should not by itself be treated as evidence of a change in the underlying earnings outlook for the index constituents.
