The OMXS30 ended Wednesday's session in Stockholm at 3,311.67, up 0.83% from Tuesday's close of 3,284.44. The move marked a new one-month high for Sweden's leading large-cap index. The Stockholm session was already finished in the configured late European time window, so this is a closing report rather than an intraday update.
Broad gains across Stockholm
According to Placera, the strongest major industry group was real estate, which gained 2.8%, while energy was the weakest, falling 5.2%. The report said European markets drew support from the outcome of the US midterm elections. It also noted that Sweden's Riksbank raised its policy rate by 25 basis points to 2.00%, as expected.
The session had a positive breadth backdrop. Investing.com, citing Reuters, reported that advancing stocks outnumbered declining stocks on the Stockholm exchange by 437 to 292, with 63 unchanged.
Leaders and laggards
Within the OMXS30, Lifco was among the strongest performers, rising 3.51%, while Nordea gained 3.31% and SEB advanced 2.73%. H&M also rose 3.5%, according to Placera. On the weaker side, Saab fell 2.39%, ABB declined 2.15% and Nibe lost 2.00%, based on the Reuters account published by Investing.com.
The closing level represents a gain of 27.23 index points compared with the previous session. Nasdaq identifies the OMXS30 as a modified free-float market-capitalization-weighted index comprising 30 of the largest and most actively traded stocks on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. The index is denominated in Swedish kronor.
Investor context
The combination of broad market participation and gains in financials helped lift the benchmark despite weakness in several industrial and energy names. The session's performance should be assessed separately from individual stock news, as component moves were mixed. Further direction will depend on the market's assessment of monetary policy, global risk appetite and upcoming company reports.
