- NEAR governance approved a plan to lower the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months.
- The change still requires Security Council review, a 90-day grace period and validator adoption before it becomes binding.
- The proposal estimates that 11.8 million fewer NEAR tokens would be issued over two years, while projected gross staking yield would decline.
- Investing.com showed NEAR/USD at 4.0210 USD when the page was read, with 24-hour volume of 820.35 million USD.
The NEAR Protocol price is in focus after the network's House of Stake approved a proposal to reduce the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months. The vote on HSP-029 was approved on November 2, while the decision was reported on November 3. The change is not yet active.
Issuance cut still requires several steps
As The Block reported, the proposal would lower the issuance ceiling gradually each epoch, reaching 1.6% in the 24th month. The existing allocation of newly issued tokens would remain unchanged: 90% would go to staking participants and 10% to the protocol treasury.
The vote alone does not alter the token supply schedule. The House of Stake Security Council must first review the result. A 90-day grace period would follow ratification, and validators would then need to adopt a protocol upgrade before the new schedule became binding. This timeline separates the governance decision from any actual reduction in issuance.
Lower dilution, lower staking yield
According to the proposal figures cited by The Block, the gradual change could avoid roughly 11.8 million NEAR of issuance over the first two years and 66.1 million over six years. At full implementation, daily issuance is estimated to fall from approximately 89,500 NEAR to 57,300 NEAR. The same modeling projects gross staking yield declining from 5.268% to 3.372%, assuming the staking participation rate remains unchanged.
For token holders, the reform presents a trade-off. A slower supply increase could reduce dilution over time, but the lower reward rate may affect the economics for validators and stakers. The proposal therefore changes the expected supply path without creating an immediate scarcity effect.
Market data remains a separate signal
At the time the Investing.com NEAR Protocol page was read on November 5, NEAR/USD was listed at 4.0210 USD. The same page showed a 24-hour trading volume of 820.35 million USD, a market capitalization of 5.27 billion USD and a 52-week range of 0.8482 to 5.9725 USD. These figures describe the observed market snapshot and do not establish a causal connection between the governance vote and the token's price.
The NEAR Protocol price therefore remains dependent on both execution of the approved reform and demand for the network. Investors tracking the token should distinguish the approved parameter change from its later implementation, while also considering the effect of lower staking rewards on participation.
