The MOEX Russia Index finished the main trading session on Friday, October 30, at 2,513.04 points. According to TASS, the index gained 0.83 percent, while the dollar-denominated RTS Index advanced 0.98 percent to 982.73 points.
Oil and diplomacy lift sentiment
TASS cited higher oil prices and gradually emerging details about upcoming peace talks in Abu Dhabi as the main factors supporting Russian equities. BCS World of Investments analyst Andrey Smirnov said the market had been positive over the week and across October, with the MOEX Russia Index seeking to consolidate above 2,500 points.
The market backdrop remains sensitive to both commodity prices and geopolitical developments. For investors, that combination can affect the valuation of oil and gas producers, the ruble outlook and expectations for Russian corporate earnings. The cited market commentary does not establish a direct one-to-one relationship between either factor and the index move, but it identifies them as the key session themes.
VK outperforms as VTB falls
According to market data cited by TASS, VK was the strongest reported performer among the session's leading gainers, rising 10.12 percent. Sistema advanced 3.6 percent, while preferred shares of Nizhnekamskneftekhim gained 3.32 percent. Kazanorgsintez and RusHydro also finished higher, up 3.23 percent and 2.58 percent respectively.
VTB was among the notable decliners, falling 2.15 percent. TASS reported that the bank's shares weakened despite an 82.3 percent increase in quarterly profit, as investors were said to be disappointed by management's indication that roughly 25 percent of net profit could be allocated to dividends in coming years, compared with an expected 50 percent. Russneft, Acron, NovaBev Group and Sollers also ended lower.
Outlook for November 2
For the next trading session on November 2, BCS World of Investments sees potential toward 2,550 to 2,560 points if geopolitical optimism continues and oil prices remain elevated. The cited outlook also places immediate support at 2,480 points and the next support level near 2,420 points. Another analyst quoted by TASS expects a possible range of 2,490 to 2,560 points. These are market scenarios rather than forecasts that guarantee a particular outcome.
