- The MOEX Russia Index closed the November 5 session at 2,458.55 points.
- It gained 0.67% from the November 4 holiday-session close of 2,442.10 points.
- Interfax cited by JKN linked support to expectations for Russia-US-Ukraine consultations and a rebound in Brent crude.
The MOEX Russia Index ended Thursday, November 5, at 2,458.55 points, according to official Moscow Exchange data reported by JKN. Compared with the 2,442.10-point close recorded for the November 4 holiday session, the index rose 0.67%.
Retail and technology lead gains
Market breadth favored buyers: JKN reported gains in 21 of 30 large-cap stocks tracked. M.Video was the strongest named performer, rising 29.59% to 57.15 rubles. VK shares advanced 25.61% to 248.20 rubles, while Samolet and LSR gained 16.88% and 6.70%, respectively.
Alrosa shares increased 15.91% to 23.60 rubles. Seligdar was among the weaker performers, falling 14.13% to 38.89 rubles. These individual-stock moves helped explain the breadth of the index advance, but the index itself remained a capitalization-weighted measure rather than an equal-weighted market gauge.
Oil recovery and diplomacy in focus
According to Interfax information cited by JKN, investors drew support from expectations for trilateral Russia-US-Ukraine consultations in Abu Dhabi the following week. The same report pointed to a corrective rebound in Brent crude toward 97 US dollars per barrel. The oil move provided a more favorable backdrop for Russia's energy-heavy equity market after recent weakness in crude prices.
The November 5 close followed a subdued holiday session on November 4 and a weaker start to Thursday trading. Earlier in the day, TASS reported that the index had fallen 0.94% to about 2,419 points at 9:00 Moscow time before the market recovered during the session. The close therefore marked a reversal from the initial intraday direction, without establishing that any single factor alone caused the move.
