The IDX Composite, also known as the Jakarta Composite Index, ended Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 4,904.29. The index fell 192.54 points, or 3.78 percent, according to RRI. The decline left the benchmark below the psychologically important 5,000 level.

Broad pressure across sectors

The weakness was widespread rather than concentrated in a single industry. Data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange cited by Katadata showed that all 11 IDX-IC sector indices closed lower. Basic materials led the decline with a 6 percent loss, followed by energy at 4.38 percent and transportation at 3.90 percent. Technology was the relatively strongest sector, but still fell 1.92 percent.

Market breadth underscored the intensity of the selling. Katadata reported that 624 stocks closed lower, compared with 57 gainers and 37 unchanged stocks. Trading activity reached 1.38 million transactions, with 26.78 billion shares changing hands and turnover of about IDR 11.55 trillion.

Global and domestic risks weigh

RRI reported that weaker Wall Street sentiment and negative regional market conditions pressured the index. Analysts quoted in the report also pointed to continuing weakness in technology and artificial-intelligence-related shares, where heavy investment has increased uncertainty over future returns. Caution ahead of the United States midterm elections added to the defensive tone.

Domestic concerns compounded the external pressure. RRI said October food inflation rose to 5.81 percent from 5.03 percent, with analysts attributing the increase partly to supply disruptions linked to the El Nino climate pattern. Core inflation eased to 2.56 percent year over year from 2.84 percent, a development interpreted as a sign of softer consumer demand.

Reform uncertainty remains central

The market is also dealing with uncertainty about Indonesia's capital-market reforms, foreign fund flows and the outcome of an MSCI review. RRI quoted Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia analyst Nafan Aji Gusta as identifying the MSCI evaluation, free-float improvements, ownership transparency, potential net foreign selling, Federal Reserve policy and geopolitics as key factors for the market outlook. These issues suggest that any recovery may depend on renewed confidence and stronger support from large-cap stocks, rather than on a single session's rebound.
