Jakarta - Indonesia's IDX Composite recovered late in Wednesday's session to close at 4,919.77, according to Kompas.com. The index rose 15.48 points, or 0.32 percent, on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, after opening at 4,856.96.

The closing level came after a volatile session. The IDX Composite traded between 4,824.36 and 4,921.13, remaining under pressure through much of the day before moving back into positive territory later in the session. The market's breadth remained weak: 509 stocks declined, 224 advanced and 230 were unchanged, Kompas.com reported.

Late rebound contrasts with weak breadth

The positive index result did not represent a broad-based rally. Only three of the 11 sector indexes finished higher. Basic materials led the gainers with an increase of 0.91 percent, followed by non-cyclical consumer goods at 0.22 percent and financials at 0.17 percent.

Eight sectors closed lower. Technology recorded the steepest decline at 1.53 percent, followed by energy at 1.51 percent and cyclical consumer goods at 1.38 percent. Property, transportation, healthcare, infrastructure and industrials also ended below their previous levels.

The sector mix helps explain why the benchmark gained while most listed stocks fell: gains in selected heavyweight or influential areas outweighed broader selling elsewhere. That is an index-composition effect, not evidence that market sentiment improved across the entire exchange.

Global uncertainty shaped the opening

Earlier in the day, the index opened 0.97 percent lower as investors monitored the United States midterm elections and a broader decline across Asian markets, Tempo reported. The publication also cited concerns about global rates, energy prices and geopolitical tensions as factors investors were assessing.

Wednesday's close therefore marked a recovery from the sharp decline recorded on Tuesday, but the benchmark remained below 5,000 points. For investors, the combination of a modest index gain, weak market breadth and large sector disparities points to a selective rather than market-wide rebound.
