- The Ibovespa was up 1.55% at 168,764 points at 13:30 Brasília time on November 6.
- The advance followed a 0.82% decline in the previous session and was supported by gains in Vale, banks and selected cyclical stocks.
- Investors continued to weigh a stronger-than-expected US jobs report against uncertainty over Brazil's fiscal policy.
Brazil's Ibovespa advanced 1.55% to 168,764 points at 13:30 Brasília time on Friday, November 6, according to Finance News. That level implies a gain of about 2,573 points from Thursday's close of 166,191.45, which was a decline of 0.82%. The quoted value was an intraday level, not a closing result.
Recovery Follows Sharp Weekly Pressure
The move represented a technical recovery after a difficult run for Brazilian equities. InfoMoney reported that the index had regained the 168,000-point area during the session after falling 0.82% on Thursday. The same report said investors were also watching the recovery in US equities, after a sharp technology-led sell-off in the previous session.
Several large stocks supported the advance. Finance News reported that Vale shares were up 2.19% at 13:27 Brasília time, while preferred shares of Petrobras were down 0.24%. Banks also contributed to the index's recovery, with Itaú and Bradesco preferred shares among the gainers, according to the report.
Payroll Raises Rate Questions
US employment data added a competing signal for investors. InfoMoney reported that the US economy added 165,000 nonfarm jobs in October, while unemployment fell to 4.1% from 4.2% and average hourly earnings increased 0.37%. The stronger-than-expected figures may reinforce expectations that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates higher for longer, a factor that could limit the durability of gains in emerging-market assets.
Fiscal Policy Remains in Focus
Domestic fiscal uncertainty remained an important counterweight. The reports said investors were awaiting further details on the government's approach to Brazil's public finances and a televised address by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva scheduled for Sunday. Analysts cited by InfoMoney cautioned that the Ibovespa's recovery did not yet establish a new upward trend without clearer fiscal signals.
Brazil's benchmark was therefore showing a firm mid-session rebound, but the session remained open and the final result could differ from the 13:30 Brasília reading. Further corporate earnings and the market's response to US rate expectations were additional variables for the remainder of trading.
