The FTSE 100 ended October 13 down 6 points, or 0.1 percent, at 10,650 points as technology concerns erased early gains. The index had reached 10,762 points, its highest level since September 23, during the session, Morningstar reported.
WPP was among the strongest FTSE 100 performers, rising 4.1 percent after French peer Publicis delivered results that supported the advertising sector. London Stock Exchange Group fell 4.7 percent after confirming talks to buy data firm Octus for USD3.5 billion, Sharecast reported.
Why did the FTSE 100 give back early gains?
Technology valuation concerns weighed on European shares after heavy selling in Asian semiconductor stocks. The FTSE 100 was supported earlier by financial shares, lower oil prices and easing gilt yields. The 10-year gilt yield fell to 5.40 percent, down nearly 5 basis points, while Brent crude traded at USD105.81, Reuters reported.
