- The index closed Friday at 6,170.49 points, down 0.98 percent from Thursday.
- Concerns about artificial-intelligence investment, regulation and high valuations weighed on European equities.
- Despite the daily decline, the Euro Stoxx 50 gained 0.64 percent over the week.
The Euro Stoxx 50 ended the Friday session on November 6, 2026, at 6,170.49 points. That was a decline of 61.05 points, or 0.98 percent, from Thursday's close of 6,231.54 points. The closing level and daily comparison were reported by Morningstar, citing Dow Jones Market Data and FactSet, at 17:35 GMT, equivalent to 18:35 Berlin time.
AI concerns remain the main drag
The retreat followed a sharp technology-led sell-off in global markets. Reuters reported that investors were reassessing the outlook for artificial-intelligence stocks after Democrats took control of both chambers of the US Congress. Market participants were concerned that a Democrat-led Congress could seek tighter oversight of AI data-centre spending, adding to existing doubts about lofty valuations, debt-funded investment and the returns from large infrastructure programmes.
European shares recovered part of their early losses as US technology stocks rebounded during the session, but the improvement was not enough to put the Euro Stoxx 50 back into positive territory. According to dpa-AFX via t-online, stronger-than-expected US labour-market data had little immediate effect on prices, although it increased expectations of another Federal Reserve rate increase in December.
Weekly gain survives the sell-off
Friday's decline was the index's largest one-day fall since October 30, according to the Dow Jones market summary. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell for a second consecutive trading day and lost 1.52 percent across those two sessions. Even so, it gained 39.18 points, or 0.64 percent, over the week and advanced for a second consecutive week. The index remained 5.81 percent below its record close of 6,551.22 points reached on August 11.
The market reaction indicates that the week's earlier resilience did not remove the sensitivity of European equities to the global AI trade. Reuters noted that the Euro Stoxx 600 was relatively less affected over the week than Asian and US benchmarks because of its lower exposure to AI-related companies, but also reported that traditional defensive sectors were not immune to the broad risk-off move.
