The Dow Jones rose 424 points, or 0.8 percent, to 52,045 points at 12:11 p.m. ET on October 15, 2026. The index climbed as Treasury yields fell despite unexpectedly strong wholesale inflation and retail sales data, Yahoo Finance reported.
Since the earlier 51,621-point level, the Dow Jones has gained 424 points, or 0.8 percent. Nike rose 4.5 percent, while retail and health care stocks supported the advance in the blue-chip index.
Why is the Dow Jones rising today?
September headline producer prices rose 1.3 percent month over month. Core producer prices increased 0.7 percent, above the 0.3 percent forecast, according to Charles Schwab.
September retail sales increased 0.8 percent, beating the 0.3 percent forecast. The data kept inflation concerns active, but a nine-basis-point drop in the 10-year Treasury yield to below 5.1 percent helped lift equities.
Winners and losers in the Dow Jones
During Thursday's midday session, a same-day snapshot from Sunday Guardian listed these leading movers:
- Nike up 4.5 percent: consumer shares led the advance.
- Walmart up 4.0 percent: retail shares strengthened.
- Home Depot up 3.6 percent: consumer stocks gained.
- Intel down 7.9 percent: technology shares weakened.
- Caterpillar down 6.0 percent: industrial shares declined.
- Nvidia down 3.8 percent: chip stocks remained under pressure.
Treasury yields lift the Dow Jones
The Dow Jones outperformed technology-heavy benchmarks as investors rotated toward consumer, health care and other established companies. The yield decline followed the data release and came despite stronger-than-expected inflation figures, BigGo Finance reported.
