- The DAX closed on 3 November 2026 at 25,864.62 points, down 0.45 percent.
- Renewed Middle East tensions, oil-price volatility, technology weakness and uncertainty ahead of the US midterm elections weighed on sentiment.
- SAP was a significant drag, while the index again failed to sustain a move above 26,000 points.
The DAX closed lower on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, after a volatile session shaped by developments in the Middle East, technology-sector weakness and uncertainty surrounding the US midterm elections. According to t-online, the index finished at 25,864.62 points, a decline of 0.45 percent from Monday's close of 25,981.09 points.
Geopolitical risks drive volatility
Oil prices initially rose after reports of new US attacks on targets in Iran. Hopes of a possible diplomatic opening briefly improved market sentiment and helped push the DAX into positive territory during the afternoon. The recovery faded after US President Donald Trump confirmed the attacks, according to the t-online report. The changing oil-price outlook remained an important influence on European equities throughout the session.
The index once again failed to hold above the 26,000-point mark. That level has acted as a short-term psychological threshold after the DAX moved above it during the previous week. Tuesday's closing decline therefore left the benchmark below the round number, although the final loss was smaller than the early-session setback.
Technology shares remain a drag
Weakness in US technology stocks also weighed on the German benchmark. CMC Markets reported that Apple's more cautious margin outlook, elevated semiconductor prices and mixed signals from recent technology earnings had unsettled investors. SAP was identified by t-online as a significant influence on the DAX because of losses in the software sector.
Investors also remained focused on the US midterm elections, which began on Tuesday. Results were expected to emerge during the night into Wednesday in Central European time, leaving markets sensitive to changes in expectations for US economic and fiscal policy.
Market focus shifts to next session
The closing level provides a more complete picture than the earlier midday indication of 25,818 points. The DAX recovered part of its intraday weakness but ended below the previous session's close. For investors, the next session will be shaped by the election results, further developments in the Middle East, oil-price movements and additional corporate earnings.
