- The L&S indication stood at 25,706 points at 13:07:48 Berlin time, down 1.66 percent from its previous L&S close.
- Thursday's official Xetra close was 26,325.01 points after the index reached a record high near 26,693 points.
- Investors were assessing a global technology sell-off, concerns about AI investment and the upcoming US employment data.
The DAX remained under pressure around midday on Friday, November 6, as a global sell-off in technology stocks weighed on European equities. The L&S indication stood at 25,706 points at 13:07:48 Berlin time, down 1.66 percent from its previous L&S close of 26,139 points. This is an L&S indication and not the official Xetra index level.
Technology losses weigh on sentiment
The move followed heavy losses in US technology stocks and sharp declines across Asian markets. Reuters reported that the Nasdaq fell 5.5 percent on Thursday as investors reassessed the cost of artificial-intelligence infrastructure and the possible regulatory effects of the US midterm election result. The technology sell-off subsequently spread to Asia and Europe.
According to Saxo Bank, concerns that closer scrutiny of the AI sector could slow data-centre construction contributed to the risk-off move. The firm also described pronounced declines in Asian technology markets and noted that the DAX had reversed earlier gains on Thursday as Wall Street technology shares weakened.
Thursday close and Friday focus
The official DAX ended Thursday's Xetra session at 26,325.01 points, down 0.43 percent, after reaching a record high near 26,693 points. The closing level and the current L&S indication are separate reference points and are not combined into a single percentage calculation. dpa-AFX, published via Yahoo Finance, attributed Thursday's retreat to falling AI stocks and weakness in Rheinmetall shares.
Attention later turns to the United States, where October nonfarm payrolls, the unemployment rate and average hourly earnings are scheduled for release at 13:30 GMT, or 14:30 Berlin time, according to Saxo Bank. Those figures are outside the configured midday slot and may influence the next phase of trading, but the DAX session was still open at the time of this report.
