The CAC 40 was trading at 8,024.40 points, down 0.29 percent, during the European midday session on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The level was 23.29 points below the previous close of 8,047.69 points. The live market page of Boursorama showed the index at that level during the session.
Technology stocks remain a drag
The decline followed weakness in technology shares in Asia and on Wall Street. Reuters, in a report published through Euronext, said European technology stocks were among the biggest drags as investors questioned the sustainability of the artificial-intelligence trade. The report said the pan-European STOXX 600 was down 0.4 percent at 0955 GMT, while the technology sector had lost 1.6 percent.
In Paris, chipmaker STMicroelectronics and software-related stocks were under pressure. A market report by Capital recorded the CAC 40 at 8,004.13 points, down 0.54 percent, around 10:00 Paris time. The earlier reading illustrates the pressure at the start of the session but is not used as the current midday quote.
Election and geopolitical risks
Investors were also positioning for the US midterm elections, with the result potentially affecting expectations for technology regulation and future artificial-intelligence investment. Reuters additionally reported that oil prices had recovered after the previous day's sharp fall, while US strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island and uncertainty over possible diplomatic talks added to risk aversion.
For investors, the CAC 40's move reflects a cautious session rather than a completed daily trend. Paris trading remained open at the time of the midday reading, so the index could still be influenced by US futures, energy prices and election-related headlines later in the day.
