The CAC 40 finished Thursday at 8,205.37 points, up 27.48 points or 0.34 percent. The close, reported by Morningstar citing Dow Jones Market Data and FactSet, marked the index's second straight daily gain and its highest close since September 8. The CAC 40 rose 2.31 percent over the two sessions.

Technology weakness limits the advance

Paris equities gave back much of their earlier strength as US markets opened under pressure. Hargreaves Lansdown reported that concerns over tighter scrutiny of artificial intelligence infrastructure and data-centre development weighed on European chip and technology shares. The move reflected a sector rotation rather than a broad retreat in Paris: traditional industrial and consumer companies helped keep the benchmark in positive territory.

STMicroelectronics was among the weakest CAC 40 constituents, while Stellantis and Schneider Electric also declined. The technology selloff followed heavy losses among US technology shares and renewed investor caution over the scale and profitability of artificial intelligence-related spending. The CAC 40 nevertheless remained above the 8,200-point level at the close.

Legrand and industrial shares provide support

Legrand was one of the session's strongest performers after raising its 2026 organic-growth target. According to Ideal Investor, the company reported nine-month revenue of EUR 8.3294 billion, up 19.5 percent, and lifted its 2026 organic-growth target to between 11 percent and 13 percent from 8 percent to 10 percent. Bouygues, L'Oreal and Saint-Gobain also ranked among the leading gainers, according to the same market report.

The CAC 40's advance came after a 1.96 percent rise on Wednesday, when financial and consumer-related shares led a broad European rally. Thursday's narrower gain shows that the positive momentum continued, but with investors becoming more selective as the US technology selloff altered the sector balance. The next session will be assessed against the index's ability to hold the 8,200-point threshold and whether pressure on semiconductor shares spreads further across European markets.
