- The CAC 40 closed 1.96% higher in Paris on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
- Financials, consumer goods and utilities led the advance, while Kering and Renault were among the strongest large-cap performers.
- Trading followed gains in European markets after the US midterm elections, with investors also weighing technology-sector concerns and French fiscal risks.
The CAC 40 ended Wednesday's Paris session sharply higher. According to Reuters, published by Investing.com, the index gained 1.96% at the close on November 4, 2026, reaching a new one-month high. The move followed Tuesday's close at 8,020.31 points.
Financials Lead the Paris Advance
Financials, consumer goods and utilities were the strongest sectors in Wednesday's session. Kering rose 6.36%, Renault advanced 5.10% and AXA gained 4.95%, according to the closing market report. The breadth of the move was also positive: 306 stocks rose on the Paris exchange, compared with 164 decliners, while 80 ended unchanged.
Within the CAC 40, STMicroelectronics fell 5.14%, Legrand declined 4.56% and Schneider Electric lost 3.42%. The uneven performance shows that the index's advance was driven primarily by financial and consumer-related constituents rather than a uniform rebound across all major sectors.
Election Relief Meets Fiscal Risks
Market sentiment was supported by the outcome of the US midterm elections and a broadly stronger European equity backdrop. Earlier coverage from Yahoo Finance also pointed to stronger-than-expected Novo Nordisk results and expectations for eurozone inflation data as factors shaping European trading.
Investors nevertheless continued to monitor concerns surrounding artificial-intelligence investment and France's fiscal position. Earlier market coverage had identified pressure from stretched technology valuations and uncertainty over public finances, leaving the CAC 40's sector rotation important for assessing whether the advance can broaden.
