- The CAC 40 closed 0.81% lower in Paris on Friday, November 6.
- Technology-related selling followed a sharp overnight decline on Wall Street and weakness across Asian markets.
- Legrand, STMicroelectronics and Stellantis were among the session's strongest CAC 40 performers, while Capgemini, Euronext and LVMH declined.
The CAC 40 ended Friday's Paris session 0.81% lower, according to Investing.com, which republished a Reuters market report. The decline came after a sharp sell-off in US technology shares and weaker Asian markets put pressure on European equities at the start of the session.
Global technology concerns weigh
Market sentiment remained fragile as investors assessed the implications of US midterm election results for artificial-intelligence regulation and data-centre investment. Yahoo Finance reported that heavy selling in technology shares followed a substantial overnight decline on Wall Street, with the Nasdaq Composite entering correction territory.
Mixed performance across constituents
The session was not uniformly weak. Investing.com reported gains for Legrand, which rose 1.65%, STMicroelectronics, up 1.54%, and Stellantis, higher by 1.39% at the close. Capgemini fell 2.76%, Euronext declined 2.47% and LVMH lost 2.36%. Across the Paris Stock Exchange, declining shares outnumbered advancing shares by 265 to 191, while 83 stocks finished unchanged.
The CAC 40 volatility index was unchanged at 18.96, described by Investing.com as a new 52-week high. The combination of a lower benchmark, broad market weakness and elevated implied volatility points to continued sensitivity to developments in technology valuations and US market sentiment, rather than to a single CAC 40 company-specific event.
