- The CAC 40 ended November 5 at 8,205.37 points, up 0.34 percent from Wednesday's close.
- STMicroelectronics and Soitec fell sharply as investors assessed possible restrictions on US data-center construction.
- Air France-KLM advanced after reporting quarterly results that exceeded expectations.
The CAC 40 closed at 8,205.37 points on Thursday, November 5, 2026, up 0.34 percent from its previous close of 8,177.89 points. The benchmark remained higher after an initially stronger session, but gains narrowed as technology stocks weakened and US equities came under renewed pressure.
The closing level and daily move were reported by Agefi-Dow Jones. The report described the Paris market as resilient despite a sharp setback in the technology sector.
Technology shares reverse part of the rally
STMicroelectronics dropped 9.3 percent and Soitec lost 16.7 percent, according to Agefi-Dow Jones. The declines were linked in the report to concerns that US authorities could impose tighter rules on the construction of data centers. The pressure reflected a broader retreat in artificial-intelligence-related shares on Wall Street.
The Associated Press reported that the S&P 500 was down 3.2 percent by late morning in New York, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average had fallen 1,146 points and the Nasdaq Composite was 5 percent lower. The report said investors were reassessing the outlook for data-center investment after Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in the US midterm elections.
Earnings provide support
Company-specific news offered some counterweight in Paris. Air France-KLM rose 12.1 percent after the airline published quarterly results that were better than expected, Agefi-Dow Jones reported. The move helped demonstrate the uneven nature of the session, with stronger earnings news supporting selected shares while the technology segment remained under pressure.
The CAC 40's 0.34 percent rise compares with its 1.96 percent advance on Wednesday, when it closed at 8,177.89 points. Thursday's smaller gain therefore extended the rebound but showed less breadth as investors weighed sector-specific risks and the deterioration in US technology stocks.
US market pressure remains relevant
For European investors, the late US weakness was an important backdrop after the Paris close. The AP report said falling artificial-intelligence shares outweighed gains in other parts of the US market, even though roughly two out of five S&P 500 constituents were still higher. The CAC 40's next direction will depend in part on whether that technology sell-off broadens or stabilizes.
