The BUX traded at 143,189 points at 12:20 p.m. CEST on October 21, down 266 points or 0.2 percent from the previous close, Privatbankar reported. The index gave back its early advance as Mol's initial 3.0 percent jump faded.
Mol was up 0.3 percent at 12:15 p.m. CEST, while Magyar Telekom fell 1.3 percent and OTP slipped 0.2 percent. The moves came as investors assessed conflicting messages about Mol's proposed purchase of a Russian stake in Serbia's NIS oil company.
Why is the BUX lower at midday?
Serbia's finance minister said a contract had been signed for the sale of the Russian stake to Mol, but the company later said no transaction development required a market disclosure. Portfolio reported that the clarification cooled the early share-price reaction. HVG also quoted Mol saying there had been no relevant change in the transaction.
BUX course and blue-chip moves
The BUX opened at 143,458 points, just 2 points above Tuesday's close of 143,456 points. It reached 144,572 points in early trading before falling to 143,065 points by 11:30 a.m. CEST, according to TozsdeForum and Privatbankar.
European benchmarks were higher, with the DAX up 0.3 percent, the CAC 40 up 0.4 percent and the Stoxx 600 up 0.4 percent. The BUX therefore lagged the broader European advance, Portfolio reported.
