The BUX closed Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 147,607.45 points, gaining 1,532.01 points, or 1.05 percent, from Tuesday's close of 146,075.44 points. Trading on the Budapest Stock Exchange generated turnover of 28.0 billion Hungarian forints, according to Penzcentrum, citing MTI.
International sentiment supports Budapest
The BUX followed the broader international market trend during the session. Aradványi Péter, senior analyst at Equilor, said investors interpreted the completion of the US midterm elections as a reduction in uncertainty, helping equity indexes including the BUX. This is an explanation reported by the analyst, rather than a direct measure of the index's trading mechanics.
OTP leads the blue-chip move
OTP was the strongest contributor among the major stocks listed in the market report, rising 910 forints, or 2.18 percent, to 42,660 forints on turnover of 20.1 billion forints. MOL added 50 forints, or 0.99 percent, to 5,100 forints, with turnover of 4.2 billion forints.
The session was not uniformly positive across the leading shares. Magyar Telekom fell 10 forints, or 0.34 percent, to 2,920 forints, while Richter declined 100 forints, or 0.77 percent, to 12,900 forints. The mixed performance means the index gain was concentrated among parts of the blue-chip group rather than broad-based across all four leading constituents.
Index context for investors
The Budapest Stock Exchange describes the BUX as a continuously calculated, free-float-adjusted index of leading Budapest-listed shares, calculated in Hungarian forints. Its official profile identifies it as a total-return index, while the reported daily level refers to the session close. The next move will depend on whether the improved international tone persists and how investors reassess the upcoming results expectations for major Hungarian companies.
