BSE Sensex closed at 72,472 points on October 9, 2026, gaining 1.2 percent as information technology shares led a rebound after Thursday's selloff. Fortune India reported that the index rose 879.09 points, while India Today linked the recovery to IT buying and bargain hunting.
Tata Consultancy Services gained 4.2 percent after reporting a 15 percent year-over-year increase in second-quarter net profit to INR 13,884 crore. ITC rose 4.8 percent, while Adani Ports, Infosys and HCL Technologies also ranked among the main gainers, according to mid-day.
Sensex recovers after Thursday's selloff
The index reached an intraday high of 72,669 points, a gain of 1.5 percent from the previous close, before finishing at 72,472 points. Rediff said Brent crude fell 1.3 percent to USD 102.90 per barrel, helping ease pressure from energy costs. The rally also followed two consecutive losing sessions.
IT leads the sector rebound
The Nifty IT index rose 3.0 percent. TCS said its PERM applications had been in single digits over the previous two years and that the US immigration measure would not affect its workforce strategy or client engagements, The Economic Times reported.
What comes next
India's September consumer price index data is scheduled for Monday, October 12, while HCL Technologies is due to announce its second-quarter results after the market close, according to Capital Market and India IPO.
