The BSE Sensex gained 1,109 points, or 1.5 percent, to 73,034 points on October 13, according to Reuters. HCLTech earnings helped drive the information technology rally, while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's comments on long-term capital gains and securities transaction taxes improved sentiment.
HCLTech jumped 8.3 percent after reporting a 21.2 percent rise in quarterly profit, as Financial Express reported. The Sensex opened at 71,952 points, according to Upstox.
Why did BSE Sensex rebound?
Information technology stocks led the advance after HCLTech's September-quarter results. The IT index gained more than 5 percent, while HCLTech's stronger margins and earnings growth supported buying across TCS, Tech Mahindra and Infosys.
Sitharaman said investors' views on long-term capital gains tax and securities transaction tax would receive consideration. The comments triggered a sharper rise in the final hour, Business Standard reported.
