The BSE Sensex closed at 76,917.85 on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, rising 1,225.07 points, or 1.62 percent, from the previous session. The 30-share index ended at its session high, according to The Week, which published the closing report from PTI after the Mumbai session.
Four-session recovery gathers pace
The Sensex had closed at 75,692.78 on November 2, meaning Tuesday's gain was calculated against that level. The latest advance extended the benchmark's winning streak to four trading sessions. Over that period, the index gained 3,671.82 points, or 5 percent, according to the PTI report. Both Tuesday's level and the previous close were reported as dated session closes rather than intraday indications.
Oil and foreign flows support sentiment
Market sentiment benefited from a correction in crude oil prices from their recent highs and signs of renewed foreign investor participation. Brent crude was reported at USD 105.60 per barrel, up 0.72 percent on the day, after a sharper retreat in the previous session. Foreign institutional investors bought Indian equities worth INR 3,114.68 crore on Monday, based on exchange data cited by PTI. The report linked the improved backdrop to lower energy-related macroeconomic pressure, while noting that the durability of the benefit depends on crude prices remaining lower.
Investors also weighed resilient second-quarter earnings and declining US Treasury yields. India Today reported that easing geopolitical concerns, corporate earnings and returning foreign participation supported buying across several sectors. The publication also cited analyst commentary that future momentum would depend on earnings delivery, continued foreign inflows, oil prices and global bond yields.
FMCG and banks lead sector gains
Buying was broad across the index and the wider BSE market. Within the Sensex, Hindustan Unilever, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement and ICICI Bank were among the major gainers. Power Grid, State Bank of India, NTPC, Tata Steel and Trent were among the laggards, according to PTI. At the sector level, FMCG rose 3.38 percent, realty gained 2.33 percent, and the Top 10 Banks index advanced 1.92 percent. Financial services and auto stocks also finished higher.
For investors, the close marks a strong continuation of the recovery, but the next phase remains sensitive to energy prices, foreign flows, geopolitical developments and the September-quarter earnings season. Further index direction will therefore depend on whether the current improvement in macro conditions and market breadth persists. More coverage is available on the BSE Sensex topic page.
