Why is Bovespa falling at midday?
Election risk kept the Brazilian market volatile before Sunday's presidential runoff. Atlas/Bloomberg showed Flavio Bolsonaro at 49.8 percent and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at 47.6 percent in total voting intentions, according to Reuters via UOL.
The index opened at 205,440 points and reached 207,388 points before reversing lower. Petrobras preferred shares were down 2.4 percent, while the index's early support from Vale and New York equities faded.
Bovespa moves from 207,388 points to 204,655
Brazilian shares initially benefited from a 1.26 percent rise in Dalian iron ore prices and positive US equity trading. The later decline in oil prices shifted pressure toward Petrobras, which has a large weight in the benchmark.
