Bitcoin Cash price in focus as quantum-signature proposal enters review

Bitcoin Cash price is in focus as developers review a proposal for post-quantum and hybrid signatures. The design could support a future migration path, but it remains subject to review and has not been activated.

Quantum security proposal enters review

  • Bitcoin Cash developers are reviewing CHIP-2026-06, which proposes post-quantum and hybrid signature support.
  • The proposal could reach a lock-in decision on November 15, 2026, while mainnet activation is targeted for May 15, 2027.
  • The design remains under review and does not yet represent an activated quantum-resistant upgrade.
  • CME's Bitcoin Cash futures provide a regulated derivatives venue for hedging and exposure management.

Bitcoin Cash price is in focus as developers review a proposal intended to prepare the network for post-quantum and hybrid signatures. CHIP-2026-06 remains a proposal rather than an activated consensus change, so the immediate significance for BCH is development progress and a possible future upgrade path, not a completed security transition.

Proposal targets signature flexibility

As reported by The Quantum Insider, the proposal introduces an OP_SIGHASH opcode that exposes the transaction digest already calculated during signature verification. The design would allow a registry-based mechanism to support different signature schemes, including post-quantum alternatives, while hybrid keys would require both classical and post-quantum checks to succeed.

The proposal is intended to preserve existing Pay-to-Public-Key-Hash output and address formats for hybrid use. Its stated aim is to reduce the complexity of implementing alternative signature schemes in Bitcoin Cash scripts. However, the reported design is still being discussed, and the available evidence does not establish that quantum-resistant transactions are already deployed on the mainnet.

Dates remain conditional

CHIP-2026-06 was introduced by contributor mainnet_pat in June 2026. The current process includes a potential lock-in date of November 15, 2026, with mainnet activation targeted for May 15, 2027. Both dates depend on review, implementation and the wider CHIP process. A Bitcoin Cash Node implementation merge request has been opened, but that development step is not equivalent to an activated network rule.

For investors, the distinction matters. The Bitcoin Cash price may respond to expectations surrounding technical upgrades, but the proposal does not by itself provide evidence of adoption, transaction-cost effects, verification performance or wallet and exchange integration. Those factors would need to develop before the proposal could be assessed as a deployed network capability.

CME adds derivatives access

Separately, CME Group reported on October 20 that FalconX and GSR executed the first block trade in its Bitcoin Cash futures. CME lists standard contracts covering 250 BCH and Micro Bitcoin Cash futures covering 25 BCH. The products offer a regulated venue for hedging and derivatives exposure, but their launch does not establish a direction for the spot market.

Further development milestones, implementation evidence and user adoption are therefore more significant than the proposal headline alone. More Bitcoin Cash coverage is available on the Bitcoin Cash topic page.
