The BIST 100 finished Thursday's session lower after an initially positive start. According to CNBC-e, the benchmark index ended November 5, 2026, at 11,333.27 points, down 144.86 points, or 1.26 percent, from the previous close of 11,478.13 points.
Early gains reverse during session
The index opened at 11,546.61 points, up 0.60 percent from Wednesday's close. It reached an intraday high of 11,617.00 points before selling pressure gradually strengthened. CNBC-e reported an intraday low of 11,315.36 points, leaving the index close to the lower end of its daily range.
The decline followed a broad rally in the previous session, when the BIST 100 gained 4.12 percent. The reversal therefore reduced part of that advance, although the Thursday close remained above Tuesday's 11,023.55 points.
Technology shares lead sector weakness
Sector performance was uneven. CNBC-e reported that the technology index fell 5.82 percent and the industrial index declined 1.76 percent. Financials rose 1.13 percent, while services gained 0.36 percent. The BIST 30 lost 1.60 percent to close at 14,101.00 points.
Investing.com said losses in technology, metal products and machinery, and basic metals weighed on the market. Among individual constituents, Baticim Bati Anadolu Cimento rose 9.25 percent, while Kardemir Karabuk Demir Celik Class D fell 10.00 percent, Astor Enerji dropped 9.90 percent and Aselsan declined 7.00 percent.
Market context for investors
The session illustrates the difference between the index's opening direction and its final performance: a positive start did not prevent losses from building later in the day. For investors, the sector split is relevant because gains in financials and services were not sufficient to offset weakness in technology and industrial companies. The BIST 100 remains sensitive to changes in sector leadership and broader risk appetite, so subsequent sessions will determine whether Thursday's decline was a short-term reversal or the beginning of a deeper consolidation.
