- The BEL 20 gained 2.42 percent in Brussels on November 4, 2026, reaching a new all-time high.
- Umicore led the index with a 6.25 percent rise, while KBC and Solvay also advanced strongly.
- The broad European rally was supported by gains in banks and renewed investor optimism after the US midterm election results.
The BEL 20 ended Wednesday's session in Brussels 2.42 percent higher, reaching a new all-time high. The move followed a broad advance across Belgian equities, with gains in consumer services, financials and consumer goods leading the market, according to Investing.com.
Broad gains across Brussels
Umicore was the strongest BEL 20 performer, rising 6.25 percent to 18.87. KBC Groep gained 3.73 percent to 116.80, while Solvay advanced 3.41 percent to 24.26. Melexis was the weakest constituent, declining 1.43 percent to 55.20. The breadth of the move was positive: 69 shares rose on the Brussels Stock Exchange, compared with 18 decliners, while 13 were unchanged.
The BEL 20's new record followed an intraday advance beyond the previous high of 5,905.83 points. Le Soir reported that the index reached 5,976.48 points during the afternoon, although that intraday level should not be confused with the closing value.
European risk appetite improves
The broader European backdrop was also supportive. A Reuters report carried by Euronext said European shares rose after Democrats won control of both chambers of the US Congress. Bank stocks and clean-energy shares led the regional advance, while stronger guidance from Novo Nordisk and forecasts from AMD also supported sentiment. This regional context helps explain the positive tone, but does not by itself establish a single cause for the BEL 20's performance.
For investors, the session combined a fresh index record with unusually broad participation. The advance was therefore not limited to one or two heavyweight constituents, although the individual performances of Umicore and KBC made a material contribution to the day's result. Further direction will depend on the continuation of the European sector rotation and on how markets assess the policy implications of the US election outcome.
