ATX moves lower during session
The index opened at 6,428.23 points, only modestly below the prior close. It reached a high of 6,429.10 points and a low of 6,369.41 points before ending at 6,404.80. The intraday range therefore reflected a weaker phase during the session rather than a sustained move above the previous day's close.
Mixed performance among constituents
Market breadth was mixed during the day. At 12:08 Berlin time, finanzen.ch described trading as more cautious and reported the ATX down 0.16 percent at 6,419.89 points. At that time, AT&S was up 2.14 percent, EVN gained 2.01 percent and Andritz rose 1.23 percent. Lenzing and Verbund were also among the stronger names. On the weaker side, DO & CO and CA Immobilien each lost 1.41 percent, while Erste Group, voestalpine and Raiffeisen were also lower.
Investor focus remains on market breadth
For investors, Tuesday's close highlights the difference between individual stock strength and the direction of the overall benchmark. Gains in selected industrial and utility stocks were not sufficient to offset weakness among several other index members. The ATX therefore finished below its previous close despite opening close to that level. The session's low of 6,369.41 points also shows that the benchmark experienced noticeable intraday volatility relative to its final decline.
