- The ATX closed 0.16 percent higher at 6,430.27 points on November 2, 2026.
- Construction stocks led the index, while OMV and AT&S declined.
- Lower oil prices supported European markets, but investors remained cautious ahead of the US midterm elections and Apple earnings.
The ATX closed Monday's session at 6,430.27 points, up 0.16 percent from the previous close of 6,420.03 points. The Austrian benchmark moved in a range between 6,408.25 and 6,468.20 points during the session. The closing figures were reported by Deutsche Boerse using dpa-AFX data.
Oil decline supports a cautious rebound
According to the market report, a noticeable decline in oil prices provided support for European equities. The move followed reports of diplomatic efforts by the United States in the Iran conflict, which reduced immediate concerns about a renewed escalation. Reuters also described European markets as directionless after the previous week's technology sell-off, with investors watching oil prices, Apple earnings and the approaching US midterm elections.
The backdrop remained fragile. The Reuters market report said investors were also digesting recent Federal Reserve and European Central Bank decisions, while earnings season remained in full swing. The US vote was due on Tuesday, adding a near-term political risk to the market outlook.
Construction stocks lead in Vienna
Within the ATX, construction-related shares were among the strongest performers. Strabag gained 4.7 percent and Wienerberger rose 3.1 percent, according to the closing report. The broader ATX Prime performed somewhat better, advancing 0.25 percent to 3,160.41 points.
Energy and technology stocks moved in the opposite direction. OMV fell 3.0 percent as oil prices corrected, while AT&S lost 2.8 percent after a sharp decline in the previous session. The Finanzen.at closing overview also listed voestalpine, Lenzing and CA Immobilien among the day's gainers.
US events set the next tone
Investors' attention now turns to the US midterm elections and corporate earnings. Apple results were expected after the US market close on Monday, while the election outcome could influence risk appetite and expectations for US economic policy. For the ATX, the next session will therefore be shaped by the interaction between energy prices, global technology sentiment and political headlines.
