- AEX finished October 13 at 1,135 points, down 1 point or 0.1 percent.
- Chinese memory-chip progress pressured AEX technology shares as Brent fell to USD 104.76.
- DSM-Firmenich rose 3.9 percent, while ASMI fell 4.2 percent.
- US September CPI is due October 14 at 8:30 a.m. ET, with 3.6 percent annual inflation expected.
The AEX closed on October 13 at 1,135 points, down 1 point or 0.1 percent, according to Zai Diamond. Chip concerns tied to Chinese memory maker CXMT weighed on technology shares as Brent crude fell 1.8 percent to USD 104.76, Reuters reported.
DSM-Firmenich rose 3.9 percent, while ASMI fell 4.2 percent. ASML lost 3.3 percent as investors reduced positions before its third-quarter results, Investing.com said.
Why did AEX slip on Tuesday?
Reports of faster progress by CXMT raised concerns about competition for established chipmakers. The pressure was concentrated in technology, while chemicals, food and beverages, and media remained stronger sectors, Newsquawk reported.
Lower oil prices and easing bond yields supported broader European stocks, but the AEX underperformed as memory-related shares extended their losses. Brent crude settled near USD 104.76 after falling 1.8 percent, Reuters reported.
AEX moves from record close to narrow loss
The index opened at 1,134 points, reached a high of 1,136 points and fell to a low of 1,132 points before finishing at 1,135 points. Euronext listed the previous close at 1,135 points and the session range at 1,132 to 1,136 points, Euronext reported.
What comes next for AEX
The next major scheduled cue is the US September consumer price index on October 14 at 8:30 a.m. ET. Economists expect annual headline inflation of 3.6 percent, up from 3.4 percent, while monthly core inflation is expected at 0.2 percent, CNBC reported. ASML is also scheduled to publish its third-quarter results before the market opens on October 14, Investing.com said.
