Wienerberger lowered its fiscal 2026 operating EBITDA guidance to EUR 640-650 million on October 6 after weaker construction activity and higher input costs weighed on the third quarter. The company outlined the reset in a wienerberger trading update.

The building materials group said the seasonal recovery in construction after the summer holiday period was weaker than expected in September. Residential new-build activity remained under pressure in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, while renovation and infrastructure markets developed more steadily.

Demand and costs shape the outlook

Lower demand reduced production utilization across several parts of the business. At the same time, energy, raw material and logistics costs increased significantly from the end of August. Additional sales initiatives, price increases and faster cost and efficiency measures did not fully offset the cost inflation in the third quarter, although Wienerberger expects those actions to take effect progressively.

The company expects third-quarter revenue of EUR 1.2-1.3 billion and operating EBITDA of EUR 170-180 million. These figures remain management estimates ahead of the scheduled results release and therefore do not replace the reported nine-month numbers due next week.

Interim CEO Gerhard Hanke said the group had accelerated cost optimization to strengthen profitability and reduce leverage. He also said management had begun a strategic review across the businesses to improve resilience and position the company for a recovery in demand.
