Wells Fargo is shifting contractual responsibility for customer-authorized artificial intelligence agents toward account holders under an updated Online Access Agreement. At 16:31 CET on Thursday, November 5, Wells Fargo stock traded at 77.68 euros on Lang & Schwarz, down 1.68 percent from the 79.01 euros cited at 15:03 CET in our November 5 report.
What the New Terms Change
The provisions take effect on November 24, 2026. As described by Cakewalk, Section 15 defines an AI agent broadly as software acting on behalf of a person, whether autonomously or not.
Once a customer authorizes an agent or gives it account access, the agreement treats instructions, actions and transactions initiated by that agent as if the customer had initiated and authorized them directly, without further verification. Wells Fargo also states that it does not monitor, screen or review AI-agent activity.
Monitoring And Revocation Duties
Customers are responsible for supervising an agent and keeping it within the authority granted to it. The stated risk covers unintended actions, manipulated inputs and activity that exceeds the agent's authority, subject to applicable law or regulation.
Customers must revoke an agent's authorization properly and promptly, retain evidence of the revocation and provide that evidence to Wells Fargo on request. Responsibility continues until the bank is notified, to the extent permitted by law. The bank also reserves the right to require registration or limit, suspend or terminate an agent's access.
For investors, the policy sets out Wells Fargo's contractual position as financial software gains access to payment and account functions. It may reduce the bank's stated contractual exposure in some disputes while increasing scrutiny of customer protection, authentication and oversight standards.
