- Wave Life Sciences plans a fourth-quarter clinical trial application for WVE-008 in genetically defined liver disease.
- Preclinical findings support the program, but the reported effects have not yet been demonstrated in patients.
- WVE-007 and WVE-006 remain the next clinical milestones for investors.
Wave Life Sciences used its Research Day on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to outline the clinical path for WVE-008, an RNA-editing candidate aimed at liver disease linked to the PNPLA3 I148M variant. A MarketBeat report published by Yahoo Finance said the company expects to file a clinical trial application in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The real-time quote of Wave Life Sciences stock traded at 3.31 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:37 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
WVE-008 targets genetic liver disease
Wave said preclinical work showed on-target editing in primary human hepatocytes, lower lipid accumulation in human liver-cell models and distribution across liver zones in mice. The company also reported more than 60 percent editing in mouse hepatic stellate cells using a surrogate PNPLA3 editing compound.
Those findings remain preclinical. Management said the initial clinical approach is expected to use genotype-based enrollment and assess editing, biomarkers and physiological effects, while detailed trial design would follow the CTA filing and trial launch.
Clinical milestones remain in view
WVE-007, an siRNA candidate targeting INHBE, is being studied in the Phase II INLIGHT trial. Wave expects to begin a maintenance trial and report data from the 600-milligram cohort later in 2026. Earlier clinical data cited by the company showed sustained Activin E suppression after a single dose and reductions in total and visceral fat.
Wave also expects data from the 600-milligram cohort of the RestorAATion-2 trial of WVE-006, its RNA-editing candidate for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Additional preclinical work covers delivery beyond the liver and bifunctional oligonucleotides targeting LPA and PCSK9.
