- Volaris generated positive EBIT in the third quarter despite higher fuel costs.
- Liquidity remained broadly stable at the end of September, while the full-year outlook calls for a lower EBITDAR margin than in 2025.
- Capacity growth and stronger fares supported unit revenue, but operating expenses grew faster than revenue.
Volaris reported a record quarterly revenue milestone on October 26, 2026, but higher fuel and operating costs kept the Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier in the red. The results were published by AP News from the company release.
Revenue growth meets cost pressure
Operating revenue reached 1.038 billion US dollars in the third quarter, up 32.4 percent from the same period a year earlier. It was the first quarter in which Volaris crossed the 1 billion US dollar threshold. Capacity, measured in available seat miles, rose 11.1 percent, while the load factor improved to 85.7 percent.
Unit revenue, or TRASM, increased 19.2 percent to 10.31 US cents. The company attributed the improvement to stronger fares and ancillary revenue. Booked passengers rose 14.3 percent to 9.0 million.
Cost growth was steeper. Operating expenses rose 40.2 percent to 1.004 billion US dollars, with the average economic fuel cost increasing 57.4 percent to 4.10 US dollars per gallon. EBIT fell to 34 million US dollars from 68 million a year earlier, while EBITDAR was broadly stable at 263 million US dollars. The EBITDAR margin declined to 25.3 percent from 33.6 percent.
Guidance highlights ongoing risks
Volaris posted a net loss of 26 million US dollars, compared with net income of 6 million US dollars in the prior-year quarter. The company ended September with 823 million US dollars in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments. Net debt to last-twelve-month EBITDAR stood at 3.3 times.
For full-year 2026, management expects available seat miles to grow by about 5 percent and guides to an EBITDAR margin of approximately 21 percent. The outlook assumes an average fourth-quarter jet fuel price of about 4.40 US dollars per gallon and includes expected compensation for aircraft grounded during Pratt & Whitney GTF engine inspections.

For investors, the quarter shows that Volaris is converting stronger demand and higher fares into revenue growth, but fuel inflation and operating leverage remain material risks to earnings. The balance between international expansion, cost discipline and the aircraft engine situation will remain central to the company outlook.
