Volaris stock: Q3 revenue tops US$1 billion despite fuel pressure

Volaris stock follows a record quarterly revenue milestone as fuel costs weigh on margins. Management guides to about 20% EBITDAR margin for Q4.

Revenue Growth Meets Cost Pressure

  • Volaris delivered its first quarterly revenue milestone above the billion-dollar threshold while passenger demand and ancillary revenue supported unit revenue.
  • Higher fuel costs and rising operating expenses compressed EBITDAR margins despite positive operating income.
  • Management expects slower capacity growth and a lower profitability margin in the fourth quarter.

Volaris reported its third-quarter 2026 results on October 26, marking a major operating milestone as quarterly revenue crossed the US$1 billion mark for the first time. The figures were published by Morningstar from a GlobeNewswire release.

Demand lifts quarterly revenue

Total operating revenue reached US$1.038 billion in the three months ended September 30, up 32.4% from the prior-year quarter. Available seat miles increased 11.1% to 10.1 billion, while booked passengers rose 14.3% to 9.0 million. The load factor improved to 85.7%.

Unit revenue also strengthened. TRASM rose 19.2% to 10.31 cents, supported by a 25.5% increase in the average base fare and higher ancillary revenue per passenger. International booked passengers grew faster than domestic traffic, adding support to Volaris' transborder expansion.

Fuel pressure limits profitability

Costs grew faster than revenue. Total operating expenses rose 40.2% to US$1.004 billion, and CASM increased 26.2% to 9.97 cents. Average economic fuel cost climbed 57.4% to US$4.10 per gallon, while CASM excluding fuel rose 13.7% to 6.23 cents.

Volaris nevertheless generated positive EBIT of US$34 million, equal to a 3.3% margin. EBITDAR was US$263 million, with a 25.3% margin, but net income remained negative at a US$26 million loss. Cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totaled US$823 million at the end of September.

Fourth-quarter outlook turns more cautious

Management expects fourth-quarter capacity growth of about 4%, TRASM of roughly 10.90 cents and CASM excluding fuel of approximately 6.50 cents. The projected EBITDAR margin is about 20%, below the third-quarter level, while the assumed average Gulf Coast jet fuel price is about US$4.40 per gallon.

For the full year, Volaris targets approximately 5% available-seat-mile growth, an EBITDAR margin near 21% and capital expenditure of about US$350 million. The outlook includes compensation related to aircraft grounded for GTF engine inspections and remains sensitive to fuel prices, demand and regulatory conditions.
