Visa and Tencent are broadening their cooperation in cross-border payments and artificial-intelligence commerce. Tencent announced the memorandum of understanding on October 29, 2026, saying the framework would combine its payment platforms and technology with Visa's global network and money-movement services. Tencent said the proposed cooperation covers cross-border payments, agentic commerce, enterprise AI and support for international business expansion.
Visa stock traded at 377.68 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 14:32 CET on Tuesday, November 3. The quote was recorded while European trading was under way; a compatible Xetra closing comparison was not established.
Travel payments and remittances
The companies plan to build on their existing work for international visitors to China. Through Tencent's TenPay Global platform and Visa Pay, they want to explore easier payment options for travelers entering and leaving China at participating merchants on the Weixin Pay and Visa networks.
The memorandum also expands the focus on remittances. Visa and Tencent intend to deepen cooperation through Visa Direct so that more overseas senders can transfer funds into the Weixin Pay ecosystem. The announcement describes these initiatives as areas for development rather than services already introduced under the new framework.
AI commerce remains exploratory
Visa and Tencent will also examine how AI and agentic capabilities can support digital commerce. Visa Intelligent Commerce could help eligible users discover, select and purchase goods or services through AI agents, while the companies also plan to explore developer-agent payment experiences and AI-native commerce models.
The work extends an existing relationship between Visa and Tencent's international payments platform Midas, which has included gaming, global payments, money movement and risk management. The companies emphasized trust, security and consumer control, with any implementation subject to applicable regulatory and data-governance requirements.
