VietinBank bond plan: what it means for VietinBank stock
Published on 10/08/2026 at 11:21 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSVietinBank planned a VND 16,000 billion public bond issue on September 17, 2026, a capital step that could expand its Tier 2 buffer and medium-term lending capacity. As Vietnam.vn reported, the plan covers 160 million non-convertible bonds with six-year maturities and no collateral.
Tier 2 capital targets VND 16,000 billion
The first tranche represents VND 12,000 billion and is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026 through the second quarter of 2027. The second tranche represents VND 4,000 billion and is scheduled through the fourth quarter of 2027, according to Vietnam.vn.
VietinBank earmarked VND 8,000 billion, or 50 percent of the program, for public-private partnership infrastructure projects and another VND 8,000 billion for real estate lending. The bonds carry a floating rate with a maximum spread of 2.80 percentage points over the reference rate, making funding costs a key variable for the plan.
Profit forecasts point to strong demand
The bond plan arrives as analysts project strong third-quarter earnings. Baomoi reported on October 8, 2026, that VDSC forecast VietinBank third-quarter 2026 pretax profit at VND 14,143 billion, up 33 percent from the same quarter a year earlier.
That forecast also put nine-month 2026 pretax profit at VND 40,011 billion, up 35 percent year over year and equal to 80 percent of the annual plan. A separate VPBankS forecast cited by Cafebiz put third-quarter 2026 net profit at VND 10,226 billion, up 20.10 percent year over year.
VietinBank stock drops 1.68 percent
VietinBank stock stood at VND 29,250.00 on HOSE on October 8, 2026, down 1.68 percent from the prior close of VND 29,750.00. The same session showed an intraday range of VND 29,200.00 to VND 29,750.00, while market capitalization stood at VND 231.1 trillion as of October 8, 2026.
For investors, the bond plan links VietinBank's capital strategy with two measurable demands: funding VND 8,000 billion of infrastructure projects and supporting another VND 8,000 billion of real estate loans. The earnings forecasts provide a separate benchmark, with the VDSC estimate implying a 33 percent year-over-year increase in third-quarter pretax profit.
