Universal Music Group reported stronger operating momentum for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, with subscription growth accelerating and core profitability improving. The company published the results on Thursday, October 29, according to its financial results release.

Growth broadens beyond acquisition effects

Revenue reached 3.394 billion euros, rising 11.7 percent in constant currency. Downtown Music contributed to the headline increase, while revenue excluding Downtown grew 5.3 percent in constant currency. UMG said the underlying performance benefited from subscription revenue, strong physical sales, higher ad-supported streaming revenue and digital growth in Music Publishing.

Recorded Music subscription revenue increased 19.2 percent in constant currency, or 9.5 percent excluding Downtown. Wholesale price increases and continued subscriber growth supported the result, while market-share pressure moderated from the first half of 2026. Physical revenue rose 17.4 percent, while streaming revenue increased 13.5 percent in constant currency.

Recorded Music drives margin progress

Adjusted EBITDA rose 9.0 percent in constant currency to 729 million euros. Excluding Downtown, adjusted EBITDA advanced 7.0 percent and the margin expanded by 0.4 percentage points to 22.4 percent. Recorded Music benefited from lower relative artist-and-repertoire expense and tighter marketing and overhead costs.

Performance across the divisions remained mixed. Music Publishing revenue grew 7.5 percent in constant currency but only 1.5 percent excluding Downtown, while its adjusted EBITDA declined 3.5 percent. Merchandising and Other revenue fell 4.6 percent as the comparable quarter included more high-profile tours.
