The STB unanimously denied merger opponents’ requests to dismiss the companies’ revised merger application. Union Pacific said the decision permits the board to continue reviewing the transaction. The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation’s Railroad Mechanical Department also entered a jobs-for-life agreement with the railroads, according to Business Wire.
The transaction remains subject to STB review and approval. Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern expect it to be completed in the second half of 2027, the release said.
