- Unilever Indonesia increased nine-month sales and profit in 2026, extending the recovery in operating performance.
- Higher cost of sales put pressure on gross profit, leaving margin quality central to the investment case.
- The wider Unilever group raised its full-year volume outlook after strong emerging-market momentum.
Unilever Indonesia entered the final quarter with stronger sales and profit, but rising costs are keeping pressure on margins. The company remains in an operating recovery, while investors are weighing whether the improvement can continue beyond the latest quarterly figures.
In its October 28 third-quarter release, Unilever said Indonesia delivered high-single-digit underlying sales growth in the period. The group attributed emerging-market momentum to volume, brand execution, innovation and digital activations. Home Care and Personal Care were among the strongest areas across the wider business.
Sales and profit recovery
For PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk, nine-month net sales reached IDR 25.75 trillion, up 7.16 percent from IDR 24.03 trillion a year earlier. Net profit rose 25.96 percent to IDR 4.20 trillion from IDR 3.34 trillion, according to Databoks. The increase marked a second consecutive annual rise in profit for the January-to-September period after a low point in 2024.
The earnings increase was stronger than sales growth, but the composition matters for investors. Cost of sales climbed 14.98 percent to IDR 14.13 trillion, while gross profit reached IDR 11.62 trillion. That divergence indicates that commodity, distribution and other operating costs remain a significant test for the durability of the recovery.
Margin quality remains decisive
Databoks also reported total assets of IDR 18.21 trillion as of September 30, down 9.04 percent from the end of 2025. Liabilities stood at IDR 14 trillion and equity at IDR 4.21 trillion. The balance-sheet figures add context, but the immediate equity question remains whether volume-led growth can translate into sustainable gross-margin improvement.
The latest group update points to a more demanding operating environment. Unilever said higher commodity costs led to stepped-up pricing, particularly in Home Care and Personal Care. Management nevertheless expects to combine pricing, productivity measures and continued brand investment as it seeks to protect profitability.
For the wider Unilever group, third-quarter underlying sales growth was 5.2 percent, including 2.9 percent volume growth and 2.3 percent price growth. Emerging markets grew 9.5 percent on the same basis, with Indonesia among the stronger markets. Unilever raised its full-year 2026 volume outlook to at least 3 percent while keeping underlying sales growth within its 4 to 6 percent multi-year range.
What investors should watch next
The next focus is the balance between demand, pricing and gross profit. Stronger volume gives Unilever Indonesia room to rebuild market momentum, but faster cost growth could limit the conversion of sales into recurring earnings. The reported profit also includes the effect of discontinued-business activity, making continuing operations and underlying margins important reference points for future quarters.
