Uber Technologies stock traded at 61.57 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 15:12 CET on Friday, November 6, 0.85 percent above the Xetra close of Thursday, November 5. The move comes after Uber reported third-quarter results that combined strong platform growth with a sharp decline in GAAP net income.

Uber announced the figures on November 4 for the quarter ended September 30. In its earnings release, the company said Gross Bookings increased 20 percent year over year to 59.8 billion US dollars. Trips rose 16 percent to 4.1 billion, while Monthly Active Platform Consumers increased 14 percent to 215 million.

Bookings stay strong as mix shifts

Revenue grew 10 percent to 14.8 billion US dollars, although business model changes reduced reported and constant-currency revenue growth by eight percentage points. The operating mix was uneven. Mobility revenue declined 2 percent to 7.5 billion US dollars, while Delivery revenue advanced 23 percent to 5.5 billion US dollars. Freight revenue rose 34 percent to 1.8 billion US dollars.

The profitability figures were stronger beneath the GAAP headline. GAAP operating income increased 30 percent to 1.4 billion US dollars, and Non-GAAP Operating Income climbed 38 percent to 2.3 billion US dollars. Non-GAAP EPS rose 35 percent to 0.88 US dollars, while Adjusted EBITDA increased 31 percent to 3.0 billion US dollars.

GAAP net income attributable to Uber fell to 512 million US dollars from 6.6 billion US dollars a year earlier. The comparison was distorted by a 4.9 billion US dollar tax valuation benefit and a 1.5 billion US dollar investment gain in the prior-year quarter. The latest period included a 476 million US dollar pretax loss from revaluations of Uber's equity investments.

Fourth-quarter targets keep focus on execution

Uber expects fourth-quarter Gross Bookings of 63.25 billion to 65.25 billion US dollars, equivalent to constant-currency growth of 18 percent to 22 percent. Non-GAAP EPS is forecast at 0.95 to 0.99 US dollars, with Adjusted EBITDA projected at 3.13 billion to 3.23 billion US dollars.

Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi said the company was investing to expand Mobility supply, build Delivery momentum and deepen engagement across its platform. He also said the focus on autonomous driving had shifted to commercial execution, with approximately 700 fully driverless vehicles expected on Uber by year-end and more than 2,000 in 2027.

For investors, the report leaves platform scale and adjusted profitability as the main strengths, while driver availability and the weaker Mobility revenue trend remain important execution issues. Uber generated 2.5 billion US dollars in free cash flow during the quarter, up 14 percent year over year.
