- Uber used HSBC tokenized deposits to buy and sell a Franklin Templeton tokenized money-market fund in a corporate-investment pilot.
- The weekend transaction was designed to capture additional yield outside traditional banking hours.
- The experiment adds a treasury-management angle to Uber's mobility and delivery businesses.
Uber Technologies used a public blockchain for a corporate-investment pilot with HSBC and Franklin Templeton, Bloomberg reported on Friday, October 30, 2026. The transaction allowed Uber to buy a tokenized money-market fund on a Thursday and sell it on a Sunday.
According to Bloomberg, HSBC tokenized deposits represented the bank funds used in the pilot. The structure allowed Uber to capture an additional 1.5 days of yield by trading beyond the normal Friday cutoff for traditional banking transactions.
Treasury flexibility meets digital finance
The pilot does not change Uber's core ride-hailing, delivery or freight operations, but it shows how the company is testing blockchain-based financial infrastructure for corporate cash management. Bloomberg said the approach could be adapted by more companies in the coming months.
